New research developed within the FreeAc Project Consortium explores the profound impact of the war on universities, students, and academic staff in Ukraine. The study reveals significant challenges, including displacement, disrupted learning, financial strain, and increasing pressure on academic freedom.

At the same time, it highlights the remarkable adaptability of higher education institutions, which have maintained international cooperation, introduced hybrid learning models, and continued supporting their academic communities under difficult circumstances. The findings call for coordinated national and international efforts to strengthen recovery, protect academic freedom, and ensure sustainable investment in Ukraine’s higher education sector.
